VILEDA microfibre mops remove over 99% of bacteria with just water*.

VILEDA microfibre mop heads are made up of millions of tiny synthetic fibres. When used with water, all of these tiny fibres loosen and physically pick up dirt and also bacteria. Over 99% of bacteria is removed with just water and without the use of harsh cleaning chemicals.

VILEDA Microfibre Mops FAQ

VILEDA Microfibre Mops FAQ

Will the microfibre remove bacteria from any surface? What about wooden floors?

Vileda’s microfibre mops are safe to use on most hard flooring surfaces including hardwood, tiles and laminate. The laboratory has tested on two very common household flooring surfaces, prefinished hardwood flooring and ceramic tiles.

Does microfibre kill all bacteria?

VILEDA microfibre mops do not kill bacteria and viruses. They remove bacteria* from the floor with the use of just water. The tiny microfibres physically stick closely to the floor and pick up dirt and over 99% of bacteria, and carry them away - without the need of harsh chemicals.

Will the microfibre mop pads disinfect my floors?

AUS-VAR-ICON-SprapMop.jpg

Disinfecting implies that you are killing bacteria. Microfibres do not kill bacteria, but pick them up and remove them from your home’s floors.

Fact: We successfully tested the removal of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, two common bacteria found in homes, and the microfibre removed both types of bacteria with just tap water.

Where do the bacteria go once I have picked them up?

The bacteria will be rinsed out of the mop head into the mop bucket and you will not bring them back on to your floors. The testing institute confirmed no recontamination when wiping a rinsed mop head onto a sterile surface.

Note: Bacteria are not killed by the microfibres. They go into the water and you need to pour out the water to remove them from your house. Our recommendation is to change the refill often, do not touch the refill with your hands (or without gloves) and wash your refill frequently. Bacteria will be killed in the washing machine (min 30º) using washing detergent.

Can I wash the microfibre mop heads – what about using fabric softener?

Yes, the microfibre mop heads can be washed and reused. For best results, simply wash warm in the washing machine according to usage instructions.
Avoid using fabric softener. It can coat the tiny microfibres, ultimately making them less effective. Once washed, lay flat to dry.

Can I use cleaning chemicals?

When mopping with a VILEDA mop, you can use any cleaning solution of your choice, but if you prefer to keep harsh cleaning chemicals out of your home, simply use tap water. That’s all you need to get the job done!
Note: For spray mops, do not use with oil based cleaning solutions including eucalyptus and essential oils as they may damage the spray trigger.  You can buy any non-oil  based floor cleaning solution in your local supermarket.
